In a perfect world, a blog owner updates their blog every day. Eventually, if the writing is good and people find it interesting, readers return daily for a new dose of content. Those regular updates also satisfy the search engines and are thought to be one component of the leading search engine’s algorithm.
My irregular updates would seem to make my a hypocrite, but the truth be known that blog entries don’t pay the bills except for a small, select number of professional bloggers. Other commitments, and in my case, many other commitments get priority. For those people who make a good living blogging, more power to them. Their writing abilities and ability to generate interest on a daily basis is a skill and an art. Many people might assume that the professional bloggers have an easy life, but as a full-time writer, I assume that they don’t.
I recently started yet another online venture to help generate some interest in my son about the world of web design, graphics, ecommerce and social media. The new site appeals to kids since it will sell and provide videos and tournament information for those interested in the battling tops called Beyblades. The new site is called Bey Deals (bey being the nickname for a Beyblade top) and can be found here: http://www.beydeals.com
Despite the dozens of domain names I have owned over the years, I was surprised to nab this one. It’s short and easy to remember, two of the hallmarks of a good domain name. Because of my retail portal websites, I already have established relationships with many of the leading retailers and etailers including three that sell Beyblades. Should be fun.
A good blog provides something of interest to read or something that the reader can use or some type of opinion. As a business person, opinion could be dangerous. Not everyone will agree with my opinion on any number of topics. Writing about something of interest is a challenge, and unless you are a niche writer, may not satisfy all site visitors. Providing something of value is also a challenge. That generally involved some amount of research, but that might be a good approach for this blog. We’ll see.
