Hurricane Sandy

My thoughts and prayers go out to those people in the mid-Atlantic states up through the Northeast and Midwest who are dealing with the aftermath of hurricane Sandy. Especially those who are without heat today in frigid conditions. Several people died, both here and in the Caribbean, and my prayers are with their families. (16 39  48 109 deaths that we know of today, including three children, in the U.S. and an additional 69 in the Caribbean and damage estimates upwards of $20 billion)

The New York subway system is 108 years old and has never faced the amount of damage that it sustained in this storm after a 13 foot wall of water spilled into the low-lying portions of New York City.

The New York Stock Exchange suspended operations, only the second time since 1888, stopping trading for two days in a row. (not even during and after 9/11) There were also more than 12,000 flights cancelled, effecting both domestic and international fliers.
