D-Day; a day that ended the war

Couldn’t let today go by without mentioning its significance. (as I did on my Did You Know Twitter page here) It was 70 years ago today that the allies first landed on the beaches of Normandy, France in what would become known as D-Day. The operation was massive; 156,000 troops from the U.S., Canada and Great Britain would wage an attack on five beaches in the Normandy region. Between 9 and 10,000 would be killed or wounded.  The battle, which stretched along a 50-mile long length of the waterfront of Normandy, would last until August of 1944.

It was the turning point in the war, and eventually, ended the war with victory for the allies. Few of the eye-witnesses to the bravery that day are still around to give us a first-hand account of what it was like. We should be reminded to honor the greatest generation for their sacrifice, dedication and victory in that battle.

Time to return to the writing that actually pays the bills. This topic could not go unobserved though.
