An Eagle’s View; Released from the Top of the World’s Tallest Building

Although this video is from 2015, it should be watched by everyone because it is really incredible.

The backstory: This eagle, named Darshan, was released from the very top of the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. (The building is more than 160 stories tall and has been the world’s tallest building since its completion in 2009.) His handler was in a park 10 blocks away. There is a GoPro camera strapped to the back of the eagle, so you see his flight from his vantage point. This is the uncut version of the video which shows the whole flight. The video is incredible because it allows us to see the world as an eagle does, thanks to modern technology, and the eagle locates his handler from such a lofty position and then goes into a 106 mile-per-hour dive towards that person on the ground.

This uncut version also allows you to hear the eagle cut through the wind. The eagle seems to use the tall building as its reference point and circles back towards it several times.

Part of the interesting perspective this affords is that you watch the eagle constantly scan the horizon as it searches for its handler. The capability of an eagle to spot something on the ground from this height is incredible to ponder; yet here it is.
