My Old School – Leonid and Friends Cover – Perfection

Donald Fagen and Walter Becker were always known as absolute perfectionists.  The founders of Steely Dan insisted that the finished product sound just as they envisioned it. Just ask any of the studio musicians who collaborated on any of the great songs they made in the 1970s.

It is in that tradition that the Russian (and one Ukrainian) group Leonid & Friends, featuring the Rox brothers; Alex and Nikita Pozdnyakov, produced their cover of “My Old School.”  Like the many covers the group has done of Chicago songs, this cover is perfection personified. You forget quickly that English isn’t the first language for these talented musicians and singers. As the greatest Chicago tribute band that has ever existed, the group has also done some great covers of the songs of other artists; always doing each one great justice.

With the addition of the Rox brothers on this cover, they have once again nailed it and created a finished product that would have put a smile on the late Walter Becker’s face and would get an approving nod from Donald Fagen today.

Anyone who was ever a Steely Dan fan, like myself, will find much to like with this cover.  Enjoy.

I just learned of Leonid & Friends from my brother-in-law. They are to perform in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in September, 2021. I’m going to buy tickets right after I post this comment!

Their covers of Chicago, Steely Dan and any others are amazing. Great instrumental talent and vocals. I’m really impressed with their backup singer Ksenia Buzina.

Hello, I’ve been following Leonid & Friends for about 2 years. We have tickets for Salisbury MA. I was hoping to see the Pozdnyakov brothers play. From what I’ve seen online, they haven’t been touring with the band. Will they in the future? Thanks
